Family Consultation

Consultation and/or parent counseling is offered to families in many circumstances. Consultation in areas of my training and expertise are provided on a one-time or ongoing basis, according to your needs. Referrals to other professionals are provided when needed. Some reasons why families have contracted with me include the following:

  • In order to better understand your child’s diagnosis or educational needs.
  • To identify helpful and supportive discipline approaches, given the child’s unique needs.
  • When assessments have already been completed and need to be better understood, summarized, or consolidated.
  • Review and evaluation of Individualized Education Plans, goals, and placements in order to understand if the school services are appropriate.
  • Classroom placement observation and analysis.
  • To provide guidance on appropriate accommodations.
  • In order to provide referrals to appropriate treatment in the community.
  • To track a student’s progress over time.
  • In order to report to other practitioners with parent input on progress.
  • Assessment of medication effectiveness (in specific circumstances).
  • To determine kindergarten readiness or giftedness.
  • Identification of strengths/challenges for personal hobbies and activities.
  • For siblings to understand the needs of their brother or sister.
