Learning Disability Evaluation

The assessment and interpretation of diagnostic tests for possible or known learning disabilities is the specialty of the educational psychologist!

I provide consultation, evaluation or re-evaluation when there are questions about learning processes such as ability, learning patterns, academic achievement, motivation, and social-emotional factors. My background in neuroscience and research helps me to carefully evaluate information processing skills, interpret those findings in a way that is understandable, and develop recommendations for interventions in areas that have adequate research. It is important to note that many types of processing challenges and learning differences overlap, or co-occur. Often, a single processing challenge has been the focus of educational interventions, and I find that a more comprehensive assessment can enlighten the team about other contributors and approaches that could be more effective.

Good assessments can fine-tune or alter the path of intervention, and allow for greater academic, personal, and social success. As previously mentioned, my reports will describe specific strengths and weaknesses, provide statements about eligibility based on special education law, span both the educational and psychological diagnostic criteria when appropriate, and provide specific recommendations about modifications, accommodations, placement, and/or remediation strategies based on the gathered data.
