Personal and Social Effectiveness Classes

These classes for children, teens, and parents are designed  teach or reinforce the use of specific strategies that allow for deeper friendships and social success for kids who have friends but need tools to become a better friend. The skill-based lessons focus on personal and social flexibility, taking the perspective of others, effective communication, noticing when others are sending nonverbal messages, and handling conflict well. While students work together in one room learning concepts and practicing skills, the parents are in another room  recieving training and support to coach their own child to apply these skills.  We involve parents because we know that our time with your child is limited, but you can maintain mindfulness throughout the month and practice the skills in many settings.  At each class session, practice homework is assigned and is to be implemented with parental support.  These classes meet twice per month for the school year, and summer sessions are sometimes available.
